Will the Cigarette Ban in England Drive Bingo Enthusiasts On to the Net?

A lot has been reported in the press not long ago regarding the bingo industry being hurt as a consequence of the cigarette ban in Britain. Things have become so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has requested huge aid to help keep the industry from going bankrupt. But does the web variation of this quintessential game offer a lifeline, or will it never compare to its real life equivalent?

Bingo is an familiar game generally enjoyed by the "blue rinse" generation. However the game recently had experienced a recent increase in appeal with younger people deciding to hit the bingo parlours rather than the discos on a weekend. This is all about to be reversed with the enacting of the anti cigarette law all over UK.

Players will no longer be allowed to puff on cigarettes whilst dabbing numbers. Starting in the summer of 2007 every public place will not be allowed to permit cigarettes in their buildings and this includes Bingo halls, one of the most popular areas where players enjoy smoking.

The effects of the anti smoking law can already be observed in Scotland where smoking is already illegal in the bingo parlours. Numbers have plummeted and the business is beyond a doubt struggling for its life. But where did the players go? Surely they have not deserted this familiar game?

The answer is on the net. Players are now realizing that they can bet on bingo from their computer while enjoying a drink and cig and still enjoy monstrous prizes. This is a recent development and has happened bordering on perfect with the ban on smoking.

Of course wagering on on the net can never replace the communal part of going down to the bingo hall, but for a group of men and women the rules have left a lot of bingo players with little choice.
